Anuvasana Vasti

Anuvasana Vasti – Nourishing Ayurvedic Enema Therapy

What is Anuvasana Vasti ?

What is Anuvasana Vasti ?

Anuvasana Vasti is a type of medicated oil enema used in Ayurveda to pacify Vata dosha and provide deep nourishment to the body. It is part of Panchakarma therapy and primarily aims to lubricate, rejuvenate, and strengthen the body. Unlike Niruha Vasti (decoction enema), Anuvasana uses medicated oils or ghee and is mainly beneficial for conditions caused by Vata imbalance.

How Does Anuvasana Vasti Work?

The therapy involves administering medicated oil or ghee into the rectum, which gets absorbed through the colon walls, entering the bloodstream to exert its therapeutic effects. The nourishing and lubricating properties of the oil help alleviate dryness, stiffness, and Vata-related disorders.

Steps Involved:

  1. Preparation: The patient is advised to have a light, warm meal before the procedure.
  2. Positioning: The patient lies on the left side with the right leg bent, keeping the left leg straight.
  3. Oil Preparation: Medicated oils like Ksheerabala Tailam, Dhanwantaram Tailam, or plain sesame oil are warmed to body temperature.
  4. Administration: The oil is gently administered through a rectal catheter using a syringe.
  5. Post-Therapy Care: The patient is advised to rest and relax, allowing the oil to be absorbed.
