Bandhanam

Bandhanam – Ayurvedic Technique for Joint Support and Healing

What is Bandhanam ?

What is Bandhanam ?

Bandhanam is an ancient Ayurvedic practice that involves wrapping or bandaging joints or affected areas using herbal pastes, oils, or medicated cloth to provide support, stability, and therapeutic relief. It is primarily used to strengthen joints, reduce inflammation, and promote healing in musculoskeletal conditions.

How Does Bandhanam Work?

Bandhanam combines the principles of compression and immobilization with the healing properties of herbal medicines. It helps:

  1. Support weakened or injured joints.
  2. Reduce swelling and inflammation.
  3. Enhance circulation to promote healing.
  4. Maintain proper alignment and stability.

Steps Involved

Steps Involved

  1. Preparation: The affected area is cleaned and gently massaged with medicated oil.
  2. Application of Herbal Paste: A paste made from anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving herbs (like turmeric, neem, or ashwagandha) is applied.
  3. Bandaging: The joint is wrapped with a medicated cloth or bandage that has been soaked in herbal decoctions.
  4. Securing the Bandage: The wrap is tied firmly but comfortably to ensure support without restricting circulation.
  5. Duration: The bandage is kept on for a few hours to a day, depending on the condition.
  6. Post-Procedure Care: The bandage is removed, and the area is cleaned and moisturized with herbal oils.
