Mamsa Kizhi – Ayurvedic Potli Massage for Muscle Health

What is Mamsa Kizhi ?

What is Mamsa Kizhi ?

Mamsa Kizhi is a specialized Ayurvedic therapy that involves using boluses (Kizhi) filled with cooked meat along with medicinal herbs. This therapy is highly effective for strengthening muscles, relieving pain, rejuvenating joints, and managing neuromuscular disorders.

How Does Mamsa Kizhi Work?

The therapy involves cooking meat (usually goat or chicken) with medicated oils and herbs, and then tying it into boluses (Kizhi). The boluses are heated and applied over the affected area through a rhythmic tapping and massaging motion. The heat and medicinal properties penetrate deeply, nourishing the muscles and tissues.

Steps Involved:

  1. Preparation: The meat is cooked with herbs like Dashamoola (ten roots), Bala, and Rasna in medicated oil.
  2. Bolus Making: The cooked mixture is tied in a muslin cloth to form a Kizhi (poultice).
  3. Heating: The boluses are warmed by dipping them in hot medicated oil.
  4. Application: The hot Kizhi is applied over the body or the affected area through tapping, massaging, and pressing.
  5. Post-Therapy Care: A gentle massage follows, and the area is wiped clean.
